Family Cycle Routes

Family Cycling Around Northstowe

Taking the family out on a bike ride is a great way to get some fresh air, exercise and a dose of feel good!

Living Sport conducted a survey in 2020 to better understand Northstowe resident’s family cycling behaviours and there were two key things that people requested which would help families to be more active – the identification of safer routes for cycling and a resource to provide fun cycling activities for the younger age group. This resulted in the mapping of some local cycle routes which range between 6-16 miles and there are also some shorter loops around Western Park and out along Rampton Road . These routes offer a mix of traffic free tarmac, off road bumpier bits and short sections on roads so take a look and hopefully there’s a route suitable for everyone.

Living Sport also produced a fun resource aimed at younger cyclists with a few challenges and activities you can do along the route

Northstowe Family Route 1

6.5 miles

Predominantly traffic free tarmac with a short section on the road at Oakington. A short section off road, which can be avoided by continuing straight on at St Michaels Church, turning right at the crossroads on Rampton Road and then left at Magdalene Close, where the route rejoins at the playpark. A top spot for a picnic!

One for the really confident cyclists. This route is on roads for most of the ride, but a great way to explore the surrounding villages. There are refreshment stops and plenty of places to stop for a picnic if you need a little snack to help you home.
